A Legacy Education

Our goal at Legacy Academy is to be rooted in radical education. Radical in the sense that we aim to provide progressive education through nonstandard practices. We approach education through a researcher’s lens, where everything is up for discussion and thoroughly researched, centering our students living healthy, happy, and liberated lives. Our model is based on what works for the populations we want to serve even if it steps outside of what conventional education looks and feels like. More specifically, A Legacy Education...

Re-centers
Students’ Narratives

  • Where we validate student experiences at home with curriculum and practices that will confirm and legitimate diverse family culture and practices.

    • Including the accurate, often ignored, contributors of science, history, literature… etcetera. These voices are included not as afterthoughts satisfying some obscure minority quota, but instead serving as the true protagonists of our curriculum stories.

  • Where we see our students and staff for who they really are, not who they have been conditioned to be, reminding them of their agency and strength.

  • Where pedagogical practices are open and affirming so students can be their true selves without fear of persecution or bullying.

Human Centered

  • Where the entire school community is rooted in respect, honesty, and empathy.

  • Where students and staff rise above being seen as mere statistics.

  • Where we reject deficit thinking and assigning blame, instead focusing on differentiating between what children have or have not been taught versus what they are able to do.

  • Where typical hierarchal structures are cast aside so to better engage with each other as humans first.

  • Where students can participate in selecting their end goal in a supported environment and receive a tailor made education to satisfy their needs to embark on their life's journey.

Ingrained in Trauma Informed Practices

  • Where our work begins with the understanding that many of our students will have experienced trauma.

  • Where everyone on campus is educated on trauma, its physical and emotional implications and most importantly, how to overcome it.

  • Where qualified help is easily accessible, self practice is modeled and validated.

  • Where expressing emotions is commonplace, and forgiveness is at the core of healing.

Research-Based in Theory & Practice

  • Where academic and personal achievements are not limited by unconscious biases but instead nurtured by social justice educators.

  • Where educators and students are all researchers, taking on research projects that demand imagination fueled by inherit problem solving attributes.

  • Where we produce educated and empowered global citizens who strive to positively impact their worlds.
